Privacy Policy

The short version

• We collect what is needed to match recipes to your family, plus anonymous counts of how the app is used so we can improve it. Nothing else.
• We do not sell your data, and we do not monetise it. It is not shared with advertisers or data brokers, ever.
• If this service ever changes ownership, your data does not automatically go with it. A new owner must put a new agreement in front of you, and you must accept it, before they may hold your information.
• You can delete your account and your data at any time.

Who we are

Dad, I Am Hungry is the service at dadiamhungry.com, operated by the person named in the Terms of Service. You can reach us at hello@dadiamhungry.com.

What we collect

Your account

An email address, and a password or a Google sign-in, handled by our authentication provider. We never see or store your password.

Your household's food requirements

Dietary preference, allergies (including anything you type into the free-text field), and how many adults and children you cook for. This is the information the whole product runs on: without it we cannot exclude an allergen or scale a recipe.

What you tell us is in your kitchen

The ingredients you enter, and the meal plans you generate. Recipes themselves are not stored — we keep only a reference and fetch them again when you look, because our recipe licence does not permit keeping them.

Payment

Handled entirely by Stripe. Card numbers never reach our servers. We store only an identifier that lets us ask Stripe whether your subscription is active.

How you use the service

We record what happens as you use the app, so we can make it better: that a week plan was generated, how many nights it filled, how long it took, whether tonight's search found something you could cook without shopping, how many items ended up on a list.

These records deliberately hold counts and yes/no answers only. Not which allergies you have — only whether you have any. Not what is in your fridge — only how many things. Not what you typed — ever. Free text is never recorded, and the code that writes these records can only write the fixed set of measurements listed above, which is checked automatically.

This information stays in our own database. It is not sent to an analytics company, because those businesses are funded by behavioural data and that would contradict what we promise here. There are no tracking cookies and no third-party trackers.

Technical information

When something goes wrong, an error report is sent to our monitoring provider. These reports are deliberately stripped of personal information before they leave our servers: no email address, no allergy information, no request contents.

About children's information

This service is for adults. Children do not have accounts and cannot sign up. But you will be telling us about them — that a child cannot eat nuts is information about that child.

We treat it accordingly:

• We ask for no names, ages or birthdays for children.
• We ask only for the number of children and the household's dietary requirements — enough to scale a recipe and exclude an allergen, and no more.
• This information is never used for advertising, profiling or any purpose other than choosing recipes.

If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Why we use it

One reason: to suggest food your family can eat, and to run the subscription that pays for it. Specifically —

• Allergies and diet are sent to our recipe provider as filters, and are checked again in our own code before anything is shown to you.
• Your ingredients and household size are sent to our AI provider so it can order the suggestions and explain them. It is never asked to decide what is safe to eat — that is done in ordinary code that can be tested.
• Your email is used for account access and service messages.

We do not use your information to build a profile of you, to train models, or to decide what to advertise to you.

Who we share it with

Only the services needed to run the product. Each receives the minimum required, and none is permitted to use it for its own purposes:

• Clerk — sign-in and account security. Holds your email and login credentials.
• Neon — the database your profile and plans are stored in.
• Stripe — payments. Holds your card details; we do not.
• Spoonacular — recipe data. Receives dietary and allergen filters and the ingredients you entered. It does not receive your name, email or anything identifying you.
• Anthropic — orders and explains the suggestions. Receives recipe titles, your ingredients and your household size. It does not receive your name, email or allergy list.
• Sentry — error reports, stripped of personal information first.
• Vercel — hosting.

We will disclose information if the law requires it. If that happens, we will tell you unless we are legally prevented from doing so.

If this service changes hands

Most privacy policies say your data transfers automatically in a sale or merger. This one does not.

If ownership of Dad, I Am Hungry changes, your information is not handed over under this policy. Any new owner must present you with a new privacy agreement and obtain your acceptance before they may hold or use your information. If you do not accept, your data is deleted rather than transferred.

This is a deliberate commitment, not standard practice, and it is binding on us.

How long we keep it

• Your account and profile — until you delete your account.
• Ingredients and meal plans — until you change or delete them, or delete your account.
• Usage records — deleted with your account. They contain only counts and yes/no answers, never free text.
• Recipe content — under an hour. Our licence does not allow us to keep it, so we do not.
• Error reports — kept by our monitoring provider for a limited period and contain no personal information.
• Payment records — retained by Stripe, and by us in summary form, for as long as tax and accounting rules require.

When you delete your account, your profile, ingredients and plans are deleted with it.

Your rights

You can, at any time:

• See what we hold — most of it is visible on your profile page.
• Correct anything that is wrong.
• Delete your account and everything attached to it.
• Ask for a copy of your data in a portable format.
• Object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict that use.

Depending on where you live, these may be legal rights rather than courtesies. Either way we will honour them. Write to hello@dadiamhungry.com.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit. Passwords are handled by a specialist provider and never reach us. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach us. Access to the database is restricted to the application itself.

No service can promise perfect security. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you promptly and plainly.

Cookies

We use only what is necessary to keep you signed in and to process payments. There are no advertising cookies and no third-party tracking.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, we will tell you before it takes effect rather than quietly updating the date at the top.
